Old Fashion Garden Roses
This is a list of roses that are in production. Due to propagation schedules, some varieties may not be available at certain times of the year. Some are in the initial stages of propagation and several varieties may be dropped after evaluation.
Agnus Roberts – (probably ‘Harrison’s Yellow’) Small leaved spring bloomer, small yellow flowers
Alva Hall – Cookeville collected, may be Eutin Rose, large rambler with clusters of slightly fragrant,
Reblooming, double red flowers.
Apple Rose – Rosa villosa – Very interesting rose hip display, single dusty pink flowers
Apothecary Rose – Rosa gallica officinalis , 3 –5 ft rambler, semi-double fragrant red flowers
Baby Pink- (may be ‘Old Blush’) Reblooming pink flws. are beautiful in bud, nice rose hips
Ballerina – Hybrid musk – Small single pink/lavender flowers in ball shaped clusters, Reblooms through
summer, fragrant, 4 – 5 ft.
Baronne Prevost – 1842, Hybrid Perpetual, sturdy 3-5 ft shrub, fragrant dbl. Medium pink flws.
Bernice Red – Locally collected, Nice shiny foliage, bright red double flowers, (still under evaluation)
Bernice White – Locally collected, Double white flowers (still under evaluation)
Buck Mountain 7-Sisters – Locally collected, spring blooming pink multiflora
Cecil Brunner- Old world floribunda, soft pink flowers rebloom through summer
Charlie’s Red – Locally collected, Spring bloomer, Deep dark red
Chestnut Rose (Opal’s Pink) – Found in old European gardens, flowers are fully double pale pink, no
fragrance, but have very interesting prickly flw buds (like a chestmut)
Comtesse du Cayla – China, 1902, bushy 3-4 ft, semi dbl. Orange-red flws, fragrant repeat bloomer
Coral Dawn – 1952, 8-12 ft climber, strong fragrance, lrg shell pink flowers, reblooms
Crepuscule – Noisette with loose dbl flws of rich apricot yellow. Nice tea fragrance, can rebloom
Danae – Hybrid Musk, slight fragrance, clusters of yellow flowers fade to white, reblooms
Darlene – Locally collected, Beautiful fragrant pink flowers, (still under evaluation)
Dutchess De Brabant – 1857, 5 ft. shrub with fragrant pink flowers, good rebloomer. Teddy Roosevelt’s
Favorite rose.
Effie’s Pink Climber – (Dr. Van Fleet) – Vigorous climber, Spring bloomer, Soft pink fragrant flowers
Emily – Locally collected, Very fragrant soft pink flowers, strong grower would make a good hedge
Etoile de Holland – 1919, climber 8-12 ft, vigorous, nice fragrance, repeat bloomer, dbl deep red flws
Granny Grimmetts – 1955, Hybrid Perpetual, dbl dark velvety red flowers, very fragrant, 3-4 ft shrub
Halloween – Locally collected, old seedling rose, masses of little orange hips at the end of October
Henry Kelsey – cold hardy, good disease resistance, semi-dbl red flws in clusters, light spicy fragrance
Hermosa – China, pre-1837, Compact 2-3 ft shrub, good rebloomer, soft pink double flowers
Jeanne LaJoie – modern climbing miniature, very double pink flowers, profuse June bloomer
La Marne – Polyantha, upright 4-5 ft shrub, light fragrance, clusters of 10 petal pink blend, good rebloom
Lady Beth –Locally collected, very small tight foliage, plant is completely covered with small pink flowers
in the spring. Makes a ground cover or can be trained on a fence.
Lila – no information, evaluating
Louie Phillipe – (china) – nice raspberry fragrance, small red flowers, 3 – 5 ft., reblooms, may be damaged
by cold winters.
Lyon’s White Rambler (Magnolia Rose) –Collected in Maryland, Strong grower, fragrant white flowers
in clusters, reblooms, (evaluating)
Maggie – Bourbon, clean foliage, dbl pink, good rebloomer
Magnifica – Eglanteria rose –Carmine flowers are double and very fragrant, reblooms through the summer,
orange-red hips in fall.
Martha Gonzales –Found rose, probably a China, compact habit 2-3 ft, almost continuous bloom with

Minnie Belle Copeland – (May be ‘Aloha’) Upright, slow growing climber, slight fragrance, large fully
double flowers are deep dusky pink.
Morden Centennial – Very hardy, mediun pink semi-double, mildly fragrant rebloomer, 5’-6’ ft.
Mutabilis – Rosa chinensis – single flowers change colors, yellow-orange-pink-red, a beautiful sight when
In full bloom. Also known as ‘The Butterfly rose’ , it can be damaged by cold winters.
Naomi Wright – Locally collected, fragrant pink rebloomer, (evaluating)
Natchitoches Noisette – Found, before 1870 USA, Chinensis, 3-5 ft shrub with 2 inch lightly fragrant
Semi-dbl pink flowers. Nice hip display
Nearly Wild –single pink flws, strong growing floribunda, heavy repeat bloomer,3 ft. great for landscaping
New Dawn – Excellent reblooming climbing shrub, soft pink flws, fragrant old favorite
Opal’s Red – No information, evaluating…
Paul’s Himalayan Musk – Rambler- Very vigorous, 30 – 40 ft., Full clusters of fragrant pale pink flowers
literally drip off the long stems in the spring. Will climb large trees.
Penelope – Hybrid Musk – Semi-double pale creamy pink flowers in clusters, sturdy rose to 5 ft., matures
quickly and has a wonderful display of orange/pink rose hips in fall and winter.
Persian Yellow – R. foetida persiana – fragrant dbl flowers, short time spring bloomer on old wood
Pink Carpet – Vigorous low spreader, reblooms, disease resistant, (still under evaluation)
Pink Longstem – Locally collected, An old tea rose, very hardy, rich pink and fragrant
Playgirl – modern floribunda, single med pink flowers in clusters, good rebloomer, fragrance debatable
Red Carpet - Vigorous low spreader, reblooms, disease resistant, (still under evaluation)
Robin Hood – 1927, Hybrid Musk, vigorous 5-6 ft shrub, semi dbl cherry red slightly fragrant flws
Rose de Rechet – Damask – Deep pink dbl flowers, rich fragrance, reblooms, dense, compact and vigorous
Sadie – Locally collected, Very fragrant pink spring bloomer, large shrub, should be a good hedge plant.
Sanders White Rambler – Wichuraiana, 1912, A vigorous shrub, pinkish buds open pure white,
Silver Moon – large flowered climber, creamy white with an amber base, very cold hardy, nice fragrance
Sombreuil – Very hardy vigorous climbing tea rose, large flat white flowers, nice fragrance, good for low
wall, fence or trellis.
Sonic – Locally collected, spring blooming pink multiflora
St. David – China, Compact bush 3 ft, single red flower with a white eye, rebloomer
Swamp Rose – Rosa palustris –Native rose, grows in swampy, boggy or poor soil, single pink fragrant flw.
in June and July. We believe this is correctly identified, still evaluating.
